The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture launched field operations against stray dogs gathering at archaeological burial mounds in Hamad Town, following repeated complaints channelled through the Northern Municipal Council.

Northern Municipal Council member Abdulla Mubarak Bilal Al Qobaisi flagged the issue after residents reported dog gatherings inside Block 1207's ancient cemeteries, particularly between the fourth and seventh roundabouts — a concern sharpest after dark.

The ministry referred the complaint to its contracted animal-control company, which verified and mapped the affected sites before beginning targeted removal.

Officials outlined a broader strategy: a new 30-month contract covering capture, sterilisation and temporary shelter at Hafira, plus incoming legislation to register pets by microchip.

"Awareness should come before punishment," said Mohammed Al Maas, vice-chairman of the Bahrain Society for Cats and Dogs, urging organised feeding over outright bans.

Officials confirmed that Bahrain remains rabies-free and called for stronger media awareness campaigns.
