Egypt Coach Accuses Officials of 'Injustice' After World Cup Exit

New York : Egypt coach Hassan launched a furious attack on match officials after his side's World Cup defeat to Argentina, claiming his team had been ‘cheated unfairly’ by controversial refereeing decisions.

Hassan criticised the use of VAR after a goal by Mostafa Zico was ruled out for an earlier foul and questioned why Egypt were not awarded a penalty during the build-up to Argentina's winning goal. He said another possible penalty involving Hamdy Fathy was also ignored without a VAR review.

Egypt had taken a two-goal lead through Zico before Argentina fought back, with Cristian Romero scoring first and Lionel Messi equalising after missing an earlier penalty. Enzo Fernandez later netted the winner to send the defending champions into the quarter-finals.

Speaking after the match, Hassan said his team had not been shown ‘respect or fair play’ and insisted key decisions had gone against Egypt. He added that he would not watch the remainder of the tournament in protest over what he described as an unjust outcome.
