Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Amina bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, took part on Tuesday in the official opening of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, which brought together more than 28,000 participants from 172 countries.

The forum, themed “Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities,” was inaugurated in the presence of Ilham Aliyev, alongside senior government officials and representatives of international organisations, including UN-Habitat.

The minister noted that the forum serves as a key global platform to exchange expertise and develop innovative solutions to housing challenges, aligning with Bahrain’s economic vision and national development programmes.

Al Rumaihi added that this year’s edition carries particular importance as it represents one of the leading international platforms shaping the future of cities and aligning housing policies with the New Urban Agenda. She said the forum’s theme aligns closely with Bahrain’s priorities of building sustainable and resilient urban communities.

As part of the event, Bahrain inaugurated its national pavilion, which attracted strong interest from international delegations. The pavilion highlights the “Muharraq Development Project” as a model combining modern urban planning with heritage preservation.

It also showcases the digitisation of housing services through the “Bayti” platform, as well as the expansion of the Government Land Development Rights Programme, which supports the delivery of social housing in partnership with private developers.

The minister said the pavilion provides an opportunity to exchange best practices with global policymakers and urban experts gathered at the forum.
