HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad chairs SCYS meeting, approves key decisions to support and empower young people

His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty’s Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, chaired a council meeting focused on strengthening youth development in Bahrain.

The meeting was attended by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Council, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, along with other members.

During the session, the council reviewed progress of the national “Lamea” project, with Shaikha Dhuwa bint Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa presenting its achievements since its launch in 2021. The initiative has grown into a key platform for identifying and nurturing young talent, with increasing participation and notable successes both locally and internationally.

His Highness congratulated the launch of the sixth edition of the project and directed efforts to expand its reach regionally and globally to further develop future youth leaders.

The council also reviewed findings from the Hope Index 2025, focusing on youth confidence, security, and optimism. His Highness instructed the Ministry of Youth Affairs Bahrain to organise programmes aimed at improving these indicators and supporting the well-being of young people.

In discussions on quality of life, Dr. Jalila bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan presented the national strategy to enhance health and well-being, highlighting initiatives that promote mental health, social cohesion, and healthier lifestyles.

The council also reviewed updates on the “Furas” programme, presented by Maha Abdul Hameed Mufiz of Labour Fund Tamkeen. Discussions focused on improving pathways from training to sustainable employment for young Bahrainis.

Further, Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Jalal outlined achievements of the Academic Excellence Authority, including initiatives such as scholarship programmes and partnerships with global institutions like the University of Cambridge. The council encouraged expanding outreach to students at leading international universities.

Concluding the meeting, the council emphasised the importance of continued collaboration to empower youth as key contributors to national development, while reviewing recent developments and approving decisions to advance its objectives.
