Sergei Lavrov arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for talks aimed at strengthening cooperation between Russia and China, especially on global issues like the Middle East conflict.
Lavrov was welcomed with a red-carpet reception and is expected to meet China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi. The two leaders will discuss their countries’ relationship, cooperation in different areas, and major international issues, including the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
China also hosted other world leaders affected by the conflict, including To Lam and Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, showing its growing diplomatic role.
Russia and China have become closer partners in recent years, especially after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Earlier this month, Lavrov and Wang Yi had already agreed to work together to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, China’s Premier Li Qiang said Beijing is ready to play a constructive role in bringing peace and stability to the Gulf region.
