Arab parliamentary consensus on emergency motion condemning Iranian attacks
The Arab parliamentary group has reached a consensus to submit an emergency item to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) condemning Iranian attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Jordan.
The Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates have jointly submitted the draft emergency proposal to the 152nd IPU General Assembly, denouncing what they termed “unjustified Iranian aggressions” against GCC countries and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The proposal calls for the condemnation and rejection of attacks that reportedly targeted civilian facilities, infrastructure, and vital installations.
Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, who also heads the executive committee of Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation, confirmed that the emergency item titled “Condemnation of Iranian attacks on GCC countries and Jordan” has been formally submitted to the IPU. It has been listed among emergency agenda items to be voted on during the IPU General Assembly, held in Istanbul, Türkiye, from April 15 to 19.
Al Musallam added that GCC parliamentary leaders agreed to incorporate key elements of Bahrain and the UAE’s proposal into another emergency item submitted by Qatar, titled “The urgent need to intensify parliamentary efforts to support peace processes in conflict zones.”
The agreement was reached during a coordination meeting of the Arab parliamentary group held on Tuesday evening on the sidelines of the IPU General Assembly in Istanbul.
