Residents left standing in front of unresponsive machines, unsure if they will return home with what they need, may soon see relief. A municipal proposal calls for manually distributing waste bags following a technical fault in the “Sahl” system.

Northern Municipal Council member Mohammed Saad Al Dosari urged authorities to temporarily open municipal offices for in person collection, allowing residents to receive garbage bags by hand until the electronic system is restored.

For many, the issue is no longer technical. It has become part of their routine: repeated visits, long waits, and the quiet frustration of leaving empty-handed.

Al Dosari also renewed his proposal to distribute waste bags every three months instead of monthly, describing it as a practical response to a long standing concern among residents.

He noted that families often visit collection points only to encounter system failures or shortages. He added that quarterly distribution would reduce pressure on centres and spare residents unnecessary trips.

Officials also raised the disruption during the fourteenth meeting of the Southern Municipal Council, confirming that efforts are ongoing to resolve the fault.

Municipal teams, they said, continue their work despite the setback, ready to shift fully to manual distribution if required to maintain service continuity.

What appears to be a simple service has revealed a deeper reliance on systems that, when disrupted, ripple through daily life.

For residents balancing work, family, and responsibilities, access to basic supplies should not come with uncertainty.

As efforts continue to restore the system, the focus now turns to ensuring that services remain steady, responsive, and centred on the needs of the community.
