Families of low-income Bahrainis who die can already seek to have up to two years of unpaid municipal fees struck off, with other cases also open to review under rules now in force, the government has told MPs.
In a written reply to a proposal calling for the cancellation of electricity, water and municipal dues on death, the government said the legal and administrative tools already in place deal with such cases while taking social and human grounds into account.
It said current decisions allow overdue sums from up to two years before a person’s death to be written off, so long as the deceased was listed by the Ministry of Social Development.
