Manama: The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations has sent identical letters to United Nations Secretary-General and the President of the United Nations Security Council detailing what it described as ongoing Iranian attacks targeting the kingdom.
The letter, dated March 12, is the fourth communication submitted by Bahrain in response to what it called “blatant Iranian aggression” against the country, warning that the attacks represent a serious violation of Bahrain’s sovereignty and a threat to regional stability and international peace.
According to the communication, the attacks have been ongoing since February 28, 2026, targeting infrastructure, vital facilities and residential areas across the kingdom.
Bahrain said the air defence systems of the Bahrain Defence Force have successfully intercepted more than 110 ballistic missiles and over 190 drones aimed at the country’s airspace, territorial waters and land. Officials said these interceptions helped reduce potential damage and protect civilian lives and critical infrastructure.
The letter also highlighted a March 12 attack on fuel storage tanks in Muharraq Governorate, which caused a fire that authorities moved quickly to contain while assessing environmental and material damage.
Bahrain further referred to earlier incidents, including strikes on a facility in the Ma’ameer area and an attack on Sitra on March 9 that injured 32 civilians, including children. Another attack on a residential building in Manama on March 10 resulted in the death of a Bahraini woman and injuries to eight others, according to the letter.
Bahrain reaffirmed its right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, stating that it would respond proportionately and in coordination with allies while continuing to protect its territory, citizens and residents.
The letter also welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 on March 11, which strongly condemned attacks carried out by Iran against the territories of GCC member states and the Jordan.
According to Bahrain, the resolution affirmed the right of affected states to self-defence and reflected broad international support, with 136 countries co-sponsoring the draft resolution.
In its conclusion, Bahrain called on the international community to condemn the attacks in the strongest terms, warning that continued missile and drone strikes threaten civilian lives as well as regional and international peace and security.
