Manama: Despite the ongoing regional conflict that has temporarily halted domestic sporting activities, Bahrain is set for international representation next month as its youth men’s national basketball team prepares to compete abroad.

The Bahrain Basketball Association has confirmed that the Kingdom will take part in the 31st Albert Schweitzer Tournament, one of Europe’s most prestigious under-18 competitions.

The tournament will be held from April 4 to 11 in Mannheim and Viernheim, Germany, under the supervision of the Deutscher Basketball Bund and in accordance with International Basketball Federation regulations.

Bahrain’s participation follows an official invitation from the German federation, highlighting growing international recognition of the Kingdom’s emerging basketball talent.

Drawn in Group A, Bahrain will face hosts Germany, Sweden, Slovenia, Japan and Türkiye in the preliminary round. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, with the tournament concluding on April 11.

Beyond the immediate competition, the event will serve as crucial preparation for the Gulf Basketball Association qualifiers for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2026 in Doha, as Bahrain’s young prospects aim to secure a return to the continental stage.
