Southern Council Launches Survey to Fix Service Gaps

A Southern Municipal Council member has launched a governorate-wide survey to log service gaps and resident needs, following instructions from Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak and under the direct supervision of the ministry’s undersecretary.

Khaled Shajara, who represents the fifth constituency in the Southern Governorate, said the project aims to gather clear, on-the-ground information so services can be improved where residents feel the shortfalls most.

‘We are starting a full field survey across the Southern Governorate to record what people need and what is missing,’ Shajara told The Daily Tribune.

He said a field team of two engineers and five supervisors has been formed to carry out site visits across all areas of the governorate, assessing current conditions and noting issues that require urgent attention.

‘The team will visit every area and document gaps in services so we can put forward practical fixes,’ he said.

Shajara said early visits have focused on Riffa and Hunainiya Parks, where the team recorded needs including additional public toilets and better lighting in some locations.

‘In the first phase, we focused on Riffa and Hunainiya Park and found clear needs, including more toilets and stronger lighting in parts of the area,’ he said.

He urged residents and relevant bodies to cooperate so the information gathered is accurate. ‘This work depends on accurate information, and we need people’s cooperation to get the full picture,’ Shajara said.

He said the municipal council would follow up on the next steps and any recommendations arising from the visits, to ensure services reach residents efficiently and lead to visible results.
