Work to Start on Karzakan Coast Project Within Three Months

Construction of the Karzakan Coast and Walkway project is expected to begin within two to three months, with an opening planned for early 2027, MP Hanan Fardan said.

The scheme has secured the required approvals and completed coordination with the relevant bodies. Once built, it will cover about 12,000 square metres along the shoreline, with a seafront walkway, a public beach, green areas, children’s play spaces and shaded seating. Service buildings, car parking and access routes for people with disabilities are included in the design.

Ms Fardan said the project comes after repeated calls from residents over many years for open public space in the area. She described it as a needed outlet for families, children and older people in Karzakan and across the western region, especially during the summer.

‘The project was not an idea on paper, but a community demand raised again and again in our meetings with residents, particularly with rising summer temperatures and the need for leisure spaces close to home,’ she said.

Residents have followed its progress from the early design stage through to the tender process. Bids ranged from BD2.5 million to BD5.8 million before the contract was awarded for about BD2.56 million.

The proposal was first put forward around 15 years ago but was held back by regulatory and financial obstacles. Reaching the build phase now marks progress after years of delay.

Ms Fardan said she will continue to monitor the project with the concerned authorities to ensure it is delivered within the announced timeframe and meets the expectations of residents.
