Farmers’ Market to Continue Every Saturday During Ramadan
The Bahraini Farmers’ Market will continue operating every Saturday morning throughout the holy month of Ramadan, following the strong demand from local farmers to maintain their sales platforms until 14 March 2026.
His Excellency Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, highlighted that the current edition of the market reflects Bahrain’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector, promoting food security, and achieving sustainable development goals. He emphasized that ongoing government initiatives continue to strengthen the sector under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Prime Minister.
Minister Al-Mubarak also praised the support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of the King and Chairwoman of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, in fostering the growth of Bahrain’s agricultural sector.
The announcement came during a field visit to the Bahraini Farmers’ Market for the final week of the 2025/2026 season. The visit was attended by Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, Eng. Asim Abdul Latif Abdullah, Undersecretary for Agriculture and Animal Resources, and other ministry officials.
Over the past 12 weeks, the market has attracted more than 220,000 visitors including citizens, residents, and tourists. More than 250 tons of locally grown vegetables and products were sold directly from farms to consumers, supporting Bahraini farmers and strengthening the local agricultural industry.
The Minister highlighted that 33 sales platforms will continue to operate throughout Ramadan, though without accompanying cafes, restaurants, or entertainment activities. This move responds directly to farmers’ requests for continued sales opportunities during the season.
Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa reaffirmed that the continuation of the market aligns with the directives of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika, reflecting her dedication to developing the agricultural sector and supporting local farmers. She noted that the large turnout demonstrates the success of the organizational efforts and ensures maximum benefit from the agricultural season.
This season of the market featured participation from 33 Bahraini farmers representing various types of agricultural production, offering more than 100 types of vegetables and local products. Specialized agricultural companies, nurseries, small projects, family-run businesses, date shops, and beekeeping enterprises also participated. The market included restaurants, cafes, and a comprehensive program of events such as traditional performances by the Dar Al-Badea Folk Troupe, agricultural and artistic workshops, and diverse activities for all community groups.
