Bahrain Bay Comes Alive as Thousands Celebrate Bahrain Sports Day

Under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, the General Sports Authority on Thursday, 12 February 2026, organised Bahrain Sports Day at Bahrain Bay.

The event witnessed wide participation from government entities, public and private sector institutions, as well as a strong turnout from members of the public representing various segments of society.

A diverse programme of open sports activities and fitness initiatives was organised for all age groups, creating an atmosphere that reflected strong community cohesion and highlighted the prominent status sport holds in the Kingdom of Bahrain as both a lifestyle and a deeply rooted social culture.

On the occasion, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa emphasised that Bahrain Sports Day embodies the national vision to promote a culture of sports and physical activity. He praised the decision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to allocate half a working day for government employees to participate in sporting activities, noting that the decision reflects the leadership’s strong commitment to supporting public health and reinforcing the concept of sport for all.

HH Shaikh Khalid stated: “Allocating half a working day for government employees to engage in sports activities underscores the leadership’s belief in the importance of sport as a fundamental pillar in building a healthy, physically fit, and mentally strong Bahraini citizen. It also strengthens our direction toward a more vibrant and productive society. The wide official and public participation we witnessed today reflects the growing awareness of the importance of sport as a way of life and confirms that Bahrain Sports Day has become an important national milestone in strengthening community bonds and spreading a culture of physical activity among all members of society.”

He commended the active participation of various ministries, authorities, and institutions, along with the large public turnout, affirming that unified official and community efforts contribute significantly to the success of such national initiatives and reinforce Bahrain’s position as a leading model in supporting the sports movement.

HH Shaikh Khalid concluded by reaffirming continued support for programmes and initiatives aimed at expanding participation in sports, in line with the Royal directives, and in a manner that contributes to achieving Bahrain’s vision of building a healthy and active society.
