Dar Aku Project Showcases Bahrain’s Advanced Agricultural Technologies

His Excellency Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture, visited the Dar Aku Aquaculture Project in Hura Al Ali to inspect its production facilities and modern agricultural techniques. The visit was attended by Eng. Asim Abdul Latif Abdullah, Undersecretary for Agriculture and Animal Resources, and the delegation was welcomed by Eng. Ahmed Abdulkarim Boujeri, Chairman of Dar Aku.

During the visit, the Minister emphasized that the development of Bahrain’s agricultural sector is a vital pillar supporting the Kingdom’s comprehensive national development, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He highlighted the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, aimed at strengthening food security and ensuring sustainable agricultural production.

The Minister also praised the support provided by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Chairperson of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, noting that such backing is crucial for advancing agricultural initiatives and achieving national goals related to food security and sustainability.

Eng. Al Mubarak toured the project’s facilities, which cover more than 40,000 square meters of modern greenhouses, and observed the types of crops produced using both protected and traditional farming methods. He commended Dar Aku for its innovative approach, modern technologies, and efficient resource use, which contribute to increasing production while aligning with the Ministry’s development plans.

The Minister also highlighted the advanced agricultural technologies employed at the farm and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting local agricultural production, investment in the sector, and national food security initiatives.

Eng. Ahmed Abdulkarim Boujeri, Chairman of Dar Aku, stated that the Ministry’s support motivates the company to continue developing sustainable agricultural solutions that enhance food security and achieve Bahrain’s agricultural development targets.

Dar Aku is recognized as one of the region’s most advanced agricultural projects, hosting the largest aquaponics facility in the Middle East. It combines hydroponic systems within greenhouses, utilizes solar energy for eco-friendly electricity production, and operates integrated production and packaging lines according to modern standards.
