Manama : The Kingdom of Bahrain has extended its condolences to the Kingdom of Thailand following a deadly train accident in the country’s north. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Bahrain’s sympathy and solidarity with the Thai government and people, offering sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
The ministry said the message of condolence reflects Bahrain’s support for Thailand during this difficult time, stressing its compassion for those affected by the tragedy. The statement underlined Bahrain’s shared sorrow over the loss of lives and the injuries caused by the incident.
The accident occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 14, in Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, about 230 kilometers northeast of Bangkok, when a construction crane collapsed onto Special Express Train No. 21 as it was traveling from the capital to Ubon Ratchathani. The impact caused multiple train carriages to derail and sparked fires, forcing emergency crews to conduct search and rescue operations amid wreckage.
Thai authorities report that at least 32 people have died as a result of the accident, with more than 60 others injured, some critically. Three passengers were initially reported missing, though later updates confirmed all aboard had been accounted for after intensive rescue efforts. Thai authorities have since launched a probe into the cause of the collapse as the country mourns one of its deadliest rail accidents in recent years.
