The long-awaited Comprehensive Centre for the Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities in A’ali is set to begin phased operations in the first quarter of 2026, marking a significant milestone for social services in Bahrain. Following an extensive maintenance project and a complete overhaul of its operational model, Social Development Minister His Excellency Osama Al Alawi confirmed that the sprawling 29,106-square-meter complex is now prepared to provide an integrated system of rehabilitation.

The facility, which consists of 10 specialised buildings, was originally delayed after being repurposed as a COVID-19 quarantine centre during the pandemic. This temporary use necessitated a full technical assessment and comprehensive repairs, including upgrades to electrical systems, fire suppression, and climate control, as well as structural and cosmetic renovations to meet modern standards.

Minister Al Alawi revealed that the centre’s new operational blueprint was shaped by a nationwide needs assessment conducted at the beginning of 2025. The complex is designed to be a "one-stop" hub for empowerment and independence, featuring a central diagnostic and assessment center capable of serving 1,300 people annually. The site will also host specialised centres for autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, and intellectual disabilities, alongside a health and sports club and a day club.

To ensure high-quality care, the ministry is implementing a phased rollout based on community partnerships with non-governmental organisations and the private sector. This collaborative approach is intended to provide the complex with highly qualified technical staff, fulfilling Bahrain’s commitment to international disability rights and the promotion of an inclusive society.
