Bahrain Malayali Catholic Community Celebrates Feast of Saint Sebastian

The Bahrain Malayali Catholic community celebrated the Feast of Saint Sebastian with spiritual fervor at the Sacred Heart School grounds. The festivities began with a ceremonial flag hoisting, followed by a solemn High Mass led by Reverend Father Francis Joseph Padavupurakkal and ten concelebrating priests.

A highlight of the event was the vibrant procession, which recreated the traditional atmosphere of Kerala festivals. Accompanied by the rhythmic beats of “Chendamelam” and colorful “Muthukkuda” (ornamental umbrellas), the procession brought a touch of cultural heritage to the Kingdom. Over 5,000 faithful participated in the celebration, which concluded with the distribution of communal “Nercha” meals. The event was a significant gathering for the expatriate community, successfully blending religious devotion with cultural traditions to honor their shared identity and the memory of their homeland.
