Expired Food Scandal: Business Owner, 2 Staff Face Trial
Manama: The Public Prosecution has referred the owner of a commercial establishment and two employees to the Sixth Minor Criminal Court for trial, scheduled on November 25, on charges of possessing and trading expired food products after changing their expiry dates, according to Attorney General, Head of the Public Prosecution for Ministries and Public Entities.
The case began with a report from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which had conducted routine inspections and seized expired food products with tampered expiry dates. The Public Prosecution ordered the arrest of the suspects, interrogated two of them after their arrest, and ordered their pre-trial detention pending investigation. The Ministry subsequently sealed the establishment.
The Public Prosecution investigation revealed that over 600 expired food products were seized, and forensic analysis confirmed that the expiry dates had been altered by replacing the original dates with new ones. The Attorney General emphasised the Public Prosecution’s commitment to enforcing the law against those who compromise public health and safety.
