Over 200 Healthcare Experts Attend Bahrain’s Diabetes Conference 2025
Under the patronage of Lieutenant-General Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health and Chairman of the Bahrain Diabetes Society, Bahrain inaugurated the Bahrain Diabetes Conference and the Global Diabetic Foot Summit 2025. The event is being held from November 12 to 15 at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, organized by the Bahrain Diabetes Society in cooperation with the Gulf Diabetic Foot Group.
More than 200 medical specialists, including doctors, nurses, and podiatry experts from Bahrain, GCC countries, as well as several European and Asian nations, are taking part.
The conference coincides with World Diabetes Day, observed annually on November 14, and reflects the commitment of regional and international healthcare leaders to strengthen partnerships in addressing the rising challenges of diabetes and its complications.
Bahrain’s Leadership Praised for Advancing Healthcare
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa affirmed that Bahrain continues to make significant strides in improving healthcare quality and preventing chronic diseases. He credited these achievements to the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the continuous support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He emphasized that the conference embodies the spirit of Gulf cooperation, particularly in tackling diabetes-related complications such as diabetic foot issues, which remain a major global health concern. He also highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to continuous medical education, hands-on training, and professional exchange as pillars of improving care standards.
Supporting National Health Goals
Dr. Mariam Al Hajri, Vice Chairperson of the Bahrain Diabetes Society, stated that the conference aligns with Bahrain’s efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by reducing chronic disease rates and promoting healthier lifestyles.
She noted that diabetes complications place a heavy burden not only on healthcare systems but also on the economic and social landscape. She stressed that prevention begins with education and public awareness, and the event strengthens national partnerships with community organizations, research centers, and both public and private hospitals.
Bahrain continues to expand early detection programs and enhance diabetic foot clinics to reduce amputation rates and improve patients’ quality of life, she added.
Platform for Young Medical Professionals
Professor Dalal Al Rumaihi, Consultant Endocrinologist at Al-Awali Hospital and Chair of the Scientific Committee, highlighted the participation of young physicians and nurses who are presenting research papers and innovative studies. She emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of scientific research and lifelong learning among the new generation of healthcare workers.
She also reviewed the achievements of the Bahrain Diabetes Society over the past year, including successful scientific, awareness, and community initiatives aligned with the society’s mission.
Strengthening GCC Medical Collaboration
Dr. Talal Al Anzi, President of the Gulf Diabetic Foot Group, stressed that preventing diabetic foot complications relies heavily on early education and regular foot examinations, not only on advanced treatment methods. He noted that deeper insights into neurological and vascular causes of complications are enhancing early intervention.
He said the conference provides valuable training opportunities for medical professionals on the latest diagnostic and conservative treatment techniques that help avoid surgical procedures.
Aisha Al Mahrazi, Diabetic Foot and Wound Care Specialist and Vice President of the Gulf Diabetic Foot Group, highlighted the importance of GCC collaboration in unifying medical standards and improving treatment outcomes. She revealed plans to establish a joint Gulf database to track diabetic foot complications and identify key factors influencing treatment success.
Launch of Updated Regional Guidelines
Dr. Noor Janahi, Diabetic Foot Specialist, announced that the updated edition of the GCC Regional Guidelines for Diabetic Foot Management has been completed and will be launched soon. She emphasized that the comprehensive scientific program includes both lectures and hands-on workshops, reflecting Bahrain's growing role as a regional hub for continuous medical education.
Day One Concludes with Honoring Ceremony
The first day concluded with a ceremony honoring speakers, participants, and supporters, highlighting the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing national diabetes prevention programs.
The organizing committee extended its gratitude to the strategic partners, including the Ministry of Health, the Royal Medical Services, the Primary Health Care Centers, and EduCare for its professional management of the event.
