An urgent proposal to place Bahraini dentists who completed the four-year ‘Trainee Dentist’ programme in permanent posts was approved by Parliament, after some were left without jobs when their contracts expired.
The move covers dentists who finished a Health Ministry-accredited scheme, worked in ministry hospitals and health centres on fixed-term terms for four years, then were not appointed.
It seeks to place them in established roles rather than see trained staff leave the service.
Supporters cite an ongoing need for dentists in public and private clinics.
Clear path
They say the step keeps trained Bahrainis in work, sets a clear path for programme graduates and reduces reliance on expatriate hires in roles qualified nationals can fill.
According to the explanatory note, confirming these dentists would improve the performance of the national health system, provide job stability for affected graduates and meet expectations set by government training routes.
The urgent proposal was submitted by Mohammed Al Maarifi, Khalid Buanaq, Ahmed Sabah Al Salloom, Zainab AbdulAmeer and Eman Shuwaiter.
