Bahraini Journalists Association Praises King’s Speech on Media
Isa Al Shaiji, President of the Bahraini Journalists Association (BJA) and of Al Ayam newspaper, has lauded the speech delivered by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at the opening of the fourth session of the sixth legislative term. The King highlighted major legislative achievements aimed at fulfilling national aspirations, including the near completion of amendments to the Press, Printing, and Publishing Law.
Al Shaiji emphasized His Majesty’s commitment to freedom of opinion and expression, noting the crucial role of the national media in promoting transparency and accountability.
“The national press has witnessed remarkable progress under His Majesty’s leadership,” Al Shaiji said, pointing to the support of the National Action Charter, which expanded press freedoms, strengthened Bahrain’s regional and international standing, and facilitated adaptation to digital and technological advancements.
He also expressed gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for supporting the legislative amendments and for enhancing the national press’s ability to operate in a secure and free environment.
Al Shaiji concluded that the proposed amendments, currently under review by the Shura Council, will modernize media legislation, uphold constitutional guarantees for freedom of expression, and equip the national media to operate responsibly, ensuring its continued contribution to sustainable national development.
