Bahrain Leads GCC Finance Talks to Boost Regional Economic Unity

His Excellency Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, headed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s delegation at the 124th meeting of the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held in Kuwait. The session brought together ministers of finance from GCC member states, alongside His Excellency Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC.

The meeting underscores the GCC nations’ shared commitment to deepening economic integration, supporting sustainable growth, and strengthening the region’s global economic position.

During the discussions, delegates reviewed key agenda items, including recommendations from the GCC Central Bank Governors’ Committee, updates from the Customs Union Authority, and outcomes from the Common Gulf Market Committee. These deliberations aim to advance the GCC’s collaborative efforts toward enhanced economic prosperity and integration.

Ministers were also briefed on the latest developments in free trade negotiations between GCC states and other international economic blocs, as well as progress on initiatives to achieve full economic unity among GCC members.

In a parallel session, Shaikh Salman participated in a joint meeting of finance ministers, economy ministers, and central bank governors with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. The discussions focused on regional and global economic and financial developments. Bahrain Central Bank Governor Khalid Ibrahim Humaidan also joined, highlighting key challenges facing GCC economies and exploring collaborative solutions to ensure financial stability and sustainable economic growth.

The meeting reflects Bahrain’s active role in fostering regional economic cohesion and its dedication to shaping a resilient, forward-looking GCC economy.
