A company has been ordered to pay a former accountant all his outstanding dues after its attempt to avoid doing so by accusing him of embezzlement failed in court.

The High Labour Court ruled in the accountant’s favour, granting him unpaid wages from his final period of work, interest calculated until the full amount is settled, and compensation for annual leave, notice pay, unfair dismissal, and end-of-service benefits.

The court also ordered the employer to issue a service certificate covering his entire time at the firm, along with either a plane ticket or its cash value.

Dues

The accountant had worked on a fixed-term contract and took legal action after the company withheld his dues.

According to his lawyer, Eman Al Ansari, the employer lodged a police report accusing him of stealing funds. The case was later shelved by prosecutors due to lack of proof. Al Ansari said the ruling showed that raising unfounded allegations would not relieve an employer of their legal obligations.
