The First High Criminal Court in Bahrain has sentenced two men to life in prison and fined each BD 5,000 for smuggling and possessing illegal drugs with the intent to sell and use them. The court also ordered their deportation from the Kingdom after serving their sentences and the confiscation of the seized narcotics.
According to the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, the case began when authorities received information that the first defendant had smuggled drugs into Bahrain through the airport by concealing them inside his body. He then passed the drugs to the second defendant for distribution.
Acting on a warrant from the Public Prosecution, officers arrested the first man at Bahrain International Airport as he attempted to leave the country. Further investigations led to the arrest of the second suspect, who was found in possession of drugs and psychotropic substances.
Both men were questioned and confronted with the evidence before being referred to the First High Criminal Court, which issued its verdict today.
