A medical panel’s finding that a man sentenced to death for killing his neighbour was fully aware of his actions is set to be tested in court next month. The High Criminal Appeals Court will hear from the head and a member of the medical panel during its 17 August hearing.

The defendant had earlier been found guilty of stabbing his neighbour to death in Shakhura, a village in northern Bahrain.

He was sentenced to death by the First High Criminal Court, which found that he had planned the killing and carried it out with clear intent.

Judges said the defendant had confessed during questioning, answering calmly and with full grasp of what he was saying. They found no signs of mental illness and said his behaviour showed awareness, self-control and deliberate choice.

According to the court, he had decided to kill the victim following an earlier dispute. He waited outside the victim’s home with a knife, wearing gloves to avoid leaving prints.
