A Ministry of Health employee who faked a patient’s medical retirement to secure pension payments has admitted to forging documents and tampering with digital records.

A verdict is expected next month.

The First High Criminal Court will rule on 26 August.

False information

The woman, who worked with the ministry’s medical committees, confessed to entering false information into the health system database.

Her entry claimed a patient had been assessed, found unfit for work, and referred for retirement.

The entry was false, but it was accepted and forwarded to the Social Insurance Authority, which processed the retirement and began disbursing a pension.

Leniency

Her lawyer asked the court to show leniency, citing her family situation.

He said she looks after her ageing parents, both in their seventies.

The defendant is not in custody and is currently subject to an alternative measure while awaiting sentencing.

Complaint

The Public Prosecution said it had investigated the matter following a complaint from the Health Ministry.

It found that the woman had used her access to the system to upload a forged report.
