An apartment in a highrise residential building in Seef district was engulfed in flames yesterday, prompting panic and the immediate evacuation of residents by Civil Defence teams.
Thick smoke was seen billowing out of the upper floors, according to eyewitnesses, as sirens echoed through the area and emergency teams rushed to the scene.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.
Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building. The National Ambulance Service was also present and took necessary precautionary measures at the site. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
Officials urged the public to strictly adhere to fire safety and prevention guidelines, especially in residential buildings, to help prevent such incidents in the future.
Cases this year
This is the latest in a series of fire-related incidents reported across the Kingdom this year. In June, five people were rescued from a burning apartment in Adliya, while in April, a tragic blaze in Hajiyat claimed the lives of a man and his mother after they fell trying to escape from a balcony. Civil Defence also responded to apartment fires in Isa Town and other residential areas in recent months, reinforcing the urgent need for enhanced safety awareness and compliance with building regulations.
Fire precaution
According to Brigadier General Ali Al-Kubaisi, Director-General of the Civil Defence, most fires in homes and buildings are caused by negligence or children playing with flammable materials, especially during the hot summer months.
In an earlier report, he outlined several key steps: Regular inspection and maintenance of electrical wiring and appliances to avoid overloading circuits. Ensuring safe handling and storage of gas cylinders— keeping them away from direct sunlight and ensuring valves are turned off after use.
Having fire extinguishers readily available in homes
Proper vehicle safety: periodic checks and avoiding storage of flammable items like lighters or batteries inside, and even opening window slightly to reduce heat buildup.
Securing homes when unattended—disconnecting electricity and gas, and installing CCTV and alarm systems.
