Years of delusions, outbursts and growing alarm ended in court after a Bahraini woman was ruled unfit to manage her own affairs, with judges placing her under legal guardianship due to chronic schizophrenia.
The ruling came after her younger sister filed a case through lawyer Shaimaa Mohammed, telling the court the woman’s condition had brought fear and confusion into their home. She said efforts to care for her had failed and that the family were left with no option but to ask the court to intervene before things spiralled further.
Medical reports submitted during the hearing confirmed that the woman suffers from long-term paranoid schizophrenia. The diagnosis, issued by specialist committees, stated she was unable to manage money or give legal authority to others.
The court heard that the woman clung to delusions and ideas that put both herself and others at risk, and that she acted on them without regard for consequence.
These episodes, according to the claimant, had dragged on for years, growing worse with time.
Lawyer Shaimaa Mohammed argued that her client’s sister had lost grip on reason and no longer had the judgement needed to handle her life.
