Man gets lifer for murder of girlfriend

Manama : The Bahraini man who murdered his girlfriend after a dispute over drugs has been jailed for life. 

The 29-year-old man called the ambulance by himself after beating the 26-year-old woman to death in his family-owned home. The duo used to consume drugs together for three years, and was sleeping together. The woman got pregnant once from him, and she disposed of the fetus, according to court files. She was jailed, but returned to him after she was released. 

“On the day of her death, I asked her to bring BD2800 of shabu through one of her friends who was dealing in drugs. We went in my car to get the drugs, but her friend asked me for the money first,” the man said. 

“I told her I would examine the drugs before I give her the money, but she declined my request, insisting on getting the money first,” he added. The girlfriend and the peddler fled the scene as soon as he handed the money. “I got furious, and returned home. My girlfriend then came with 1 gramme of shabu after a few hours. She was supposed to bring 30 grammes as per the agreement. I slapped her twice, and she fell, motionless,” he stated. 

The defendant, however, is thought to have beaten the woman with a plank. His mother confirmed hearing screams in his room before the woman was found dead.

 “I hid in my little girl’s room after I heard the screams. I was afraid he would come and attack us,” his mother told prosecutors.
