UN council urges for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan

UNITED NATIONS

The U.N. Security Council urged Armenia and Azerbaijan to immediately stop fighting over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh and urgently start talk for peace without any precondition

What it needed is to deescalate tensions and return to meaningful negotiations without delay.

The two neighbors have been in conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, a region of Azerbaijan that has been under the control of ethnic Armenian forces backed by Armenia over a long period.

All International efforts to settle the conflict have stalled and tension started to mount day by day.

The Un assures all support to the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe, has been trying to mediate peace talks between the two countries.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel had underlined to the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in phone calls that the conflict must be resolved on the principles of “non-use of force, territorial integrity and self-determination.”
