Al-Azini looking ahead after stunning Oman comeback

Baku : Oman coach Hamed Al-Azini is expecting his side to build on their fantastic start to the Islamic Solidarity Games football tournament, after they wiped out a two-goal deficit against Turkey to claim a thrilling 3-2 victory on Thursday.

Al-Azini's men now sit at the Group B summit ahead of Algeria's clash with Palestine, who they drew 2-2 with on Monday despite trailing twice.

The plucky Oman outfit are clearly not going to give up in any situation and would need an unfortunate series of results not to qualify for the semi-finals.

"The second half of the game was very good for us, so we will look to build on that for the following matches," Al-Azini said.

"We will prepare for the next game for two days and we saw a lot from us in this match and now we must focus on the next game against Algeria.

"We don't want to lose our way, we want to continue like today."

Turkey though are out of the tournament after consecutive losses and will be left to rue missed opportunities, including a penalty early in the second half while they were leading 2-0.

Even a point would have kept them in contention for a last-four spot, but they failed to break down a stubborn Oman late on.

"It was great for us to be involved in this tournament. The team that came with us was very young," said Turkey boss Nedim Yigit.

"It was a test for them to see if they would get exhausted or not and some players were successful in that, but some were not so good.

"We tried our best and the first half was spectacular for us but then we had technical issues in a bad second half."

Oman will take on Algeria at the Azal Arena on Monday as they look to secure a semi-final berth, while Turkey will play only for pride against Palestine.
