Heat Kills 16 in South Korea This Summer

SEOUL: South Korea's interior ministry reported Tuesday that a blistering summer heatwave has killed at least 16 people across the nation.
Between May 15 and August 2, a total of 2,025 people suffered heat-related illnesses as severe weather gripped the country.
The heatwave has broken national temperature records three times over the past week alone, culminating in an all-time high of 42.5°C in the city of Yangsan on Sunday.
In response, authorities placed the capital city of Seoul under the highest-level ‘severe heatwave warning’ alert, with temperatures forecast to approach 40°C again.
Emphasizing the gravity of the ongoing weather emergency, the national weather agency issued a statement warning the public that extreme and life-threatening heat is expected to persist.
