Palestinian Woman Delivers Stillborn Baby After Ambulance Delay at West Bank Checkpoint

Nablus: A Palestinian woman gave birth to a stillborn baby after the ambulance carrying her to hospital was delayed at a military checkpoint in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian health officials.

Medics said the 28-year-old woman, who was six months pregnant, was suffering from severe bleeding when she was taken from her home near Nablus. They said road closures forced the ambulance onto a longer route before it was stopped at the Awarta checkpoint.

The ambulance crew alleged that Israeli soldiers ordered the vehicle to switch off its engine and medical equipment while checking documents, delaying the journey for more than 30 minutes. During the wait, the woman went into labour and a nurse delivered the baby inside the ambulance. The infant was stillborn, according to the medical team.

After reaching Rafidia Hospital, the woman underwent emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and is now in stable condition, hospital officials said.

The Israeli military denied delaying the ambulance, describing the allegation as false and saying it had received no report of the incident from the Palestinian side. The incident comes amid heightened military operations and road closures across the occupied West Bank following recent violence in the territory.
