Los Angeles: The California judge ruled that US singer D4vd, real name David Anthony Burke, must stand trial on accusations of first-degree murder, child sexual assault, and destruction of human remains in the 2025 death of fourteen year old  girl.

The decision came after a 5 day preliminary hearing in which prosecutors presented DNA evidence, forensic results, and witness testimony. They said Burke had an illicit sexual affair with the teenager and murdered her when she threatened to reveal the relationship, believing it would damage his fast expanding music career.

According to prosecutors, the teenager vanished after seeing Burke in April 2025. Investigators later found her fragmented remains at many locations across Southern California. Authorities claim Burke sought to conceal the crime by disposing of the body and deleting evidence.

Burke, who became famous with the popular song Romantic Homicide, has pleaded not guilty to all allegations. His defence team argues that the prosecution's case is based primarily on circumstantial evidence and that he is innocent.

The court ruled that there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial, but emphasised that the decision does not determine guilt. Burke remains in detention without bail. Prosecutors have yet to determine whether to pursue the death sentence if convicted. His arraignment is anticipated for August, with a trial date to be decided later.
