45 Days of Surveillance End in Smuggler’s Arrest in Dubai

Dubai: Dubai Police have disclosed how they tracked down and arrested a suspected international drug smuggler who spent 45 days residing in Dubai International Airport's transit zone, hoping he could avoid imprisonment by never legally entering the country.

The suspect, whose identity and nationality were not revealed, allegedly utilised the airport's transit area as a hub to coordinate a worldwide narcotics smuggling operation. Investigators said he kept touch with persons arriving from other countries and reportedly helped in the transit of narcotics.

Dubai Police anti-narcotics officers began closely monitoring him for 45 days, tracking his movements, contacts, and activities. Rather than arrest him right away, investigators reportedly waited to understand the wider plot and determine when he would leave the airport.

The breakthrough came following the suspect allegedly exited the transit zone to recover a package of cocaine hidden somewhere in Dubai. Police was ready for him and arrested him as part of the operation.

Authorities said the case emphasises the use of long-term surveillance and intelligence collection to break down transnational trafficking networks, even when suspects try to evade legal entry into a country by using airport transit zones.
