Zelensky Eyes Trump Meeting on Missile Defence Later This Month

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he intends to meet with US President Donald Trump later this month to discuss improving Ukraine's missile and air defence capabilities as Russian strikes escalate.
Zelenskyy wants more missile interceptors, notably for US-made Patriot systems, which Ukraine uses to repel Russian ballistic missile attacks. Kyiv has warned that diminishing interceptor stocks may leave its cities and electricity infrastructure more vulnerable as winter approaches.
The anticipated meeting would coincide with fresh US diplomatic attempts to end the war. Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, recently met with Zelenskyy in Kyiv after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, but no significant progress was reported.
Zelenskyy has also emphasised the necessity for a broader winter package that includes air defence and energy security. His need for more missile protection comes as Russia resumes significant strikes on Kyiv, emphasising the importance of strengthening Ukraine's defences.
