Balkan storms leave one dead in Albania

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina: Storms sweeping across the Balkans have left one person dead in Albania and caused widespread destruction across the region, following weeks of extreme heat and drought. Authorities reported extensive damage to infrastructure, crops and public property as powerful winds battered several countries.
In Albania, an electrician was killed while repairing a power line damaged during the storm in the coastal town of Himara. Three other people were injured in nearby Saranda after falling trees and shattered glass caused accidents.
Bosnia's southern Herzegovina region suffered severe agricultural losses, with local officials saying fields of potatoes, onions, cabbages and orchards were devastated, leaving many farmers with little hope of a harvest.
North Macedonia also faced violent winds reaching up to 134 km/h, damaging more than 100 vehicles, uprooting nearly 200 trees and affecting government buildings and the airport.
Scientists warn that such extreme weather events are becoming more frequent as global temperatures continue to rise.
