Bangkok: The mother of Thai beer heir Siranudh "Psi" Scott has withdrawn her case against her son under Thailand's century-old 'ungrateful child' legislation, bringing an end to a legal struggle that gained national attention after he accused his elder brother of sexually assaulting him as a child.
Following court mediation, Jeeranuch Bhirombhakdi finally dropped the complaint, expressing hope that the family could begin to heal and that justice would be served for both of her boys.
The case, filed in February, aimed to regain land worth millions of dollars given to Scott by his late grandpa. Jeeranuch claimed that her son's public allegations had harmed the family's reputation under Thailand's 1908 ‘ungrateful child’ statute, which permits parents to rescind presents in circumstances of extreme reputational harm or neglect.
Scott welcomed the withdrawal, but the damage to his life persisted. ‘I cannot claim victory today because this case should never have happened,’ he told reporters outside the court.
His elder brother, Sunit, has rejected the abuse allegations, although he was removed from management positions at the family-owned Singha beer company when the allegations surfaced.
