Longnan, China: The death toll from a landslide in northwestern China's Gansu province has risen to 21 after rescue teams completed search operations, state media reported on Wednesday.
The landslide struck Nanhe township in Longnan city early on Tuesday, burying 33 people. Rescue workers recovered everyone trapped under the debris by early Wednesday. Seven survivors suffered minor injuries, while five others escaped without injuries.
Officials said the landslide swept through a wooded area, covering about 5,400 square metres with debris up to 10 metres deep. Authorities warned that the ground remains unstable, raising the risk of another landslide in the area.
