The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) launched a new round of precision strikes against Iran on July 7, targeting more than 80 military sites in response to Tehran's latest attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CENTCOM, the operation struck Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar installations, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 small boats operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in and around the strategic waterway. The strikes were intended to reduce Iran's ability to carry out further attacks on international shipping.
The military action followed recent Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz: the Marshall Islands-flagged M/T Al Rekayyat, the Saudi Arabia-flagged M/T Wedyan, and the Liberian-flagged M/T Cyprus Prosperity.
CENTCOM described the attacks on the vessels as an "unwarranted act of aggression" and said they constituted a serious violation of the ceasefire while undermining freedom of navigation through one of the world's busiest maritime trade routes.
The command added that U.S. forces remain fully prepared to hold Iran accountable if it fails to comply with the terms of the ceasefire agreement or carries out further attacks that threaten international commerce.
