Manila: Super Typhoon Bavi diverted away from the Philippines on Monday, avoiding a direct hit as it developed over the western Pacific and headed towards Taiwan with maximum sustained winds of up to 300 km/h.

According to forecast officials, the Category 5 storm will approach the Philippine Area of Responsibility before bending northward into Taiwan later this week. While the typhoon is not expected to make direct landfall in the Philippines, it may bring rough seas, heavy rainfall, and strong gusts to the country's northern regions.

Before shifting direction, Bavi slammed Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands with damaging winds, torrential rain, and deadly storm surges, causing extensive disruption. Authorities in Taiwan started monitoring the storm closely and encouraged citizens to prepare for possibly severe weather as Bavi approaches. Emergency services across the region remain on high alert, warning that the powerful typhoon could yet grow and pose serious hazards to life and property.
