Stade: According to German media sources, the man accused of killing six child welfare workers at a mother-and-child shelter in northern Germany was previously investigated for allegedly forcefully shaking his three-month-old daughter.
The 45-year-old suspect allegedly attended a planned custody meeting at the Stade shelter before opening fire on staff. Prosecutors stated that he has been remanded in detention on six counts of murder. The incident is thought to have resulted from a custody battle over his baby daughter.
According to reports, doctors treating the infant expressed alarm after the baby was allegedly shook, and the suspect apparently threatened medical staff. Earlier enquiries into his actions were reportedly put on hold. The child's mother and baby survived the shooting unharmed.
The June 29 attack killed four women and two men working at the shelter, making it one of Germany's most deadly recent mass shootings. Authorities said there is no sign of a greater public threat, and the investigation into the attack is ongoing.
