Washington DC: NASA has vowed to send a soccer ball to the Moon if the United States wins the World Cup. This unique promotional challenge was announced to directly motivate American players during the ongoing international tournament.
Space agency chief Jared Isaacman shared the plan during an official event outlining upcoming blueprints for a lunar base. If the national team achieves victory, NASA intends to carry the ball further into space than any sports equipment in history.
The soccer ball is physically light enough to make the journey and will be integrated into a payload alongside vital scientific instruments. The project explicitly aims to surpass astronaut Alan Shepard’s famous 1971 milestone of hitting golf balls on the lunar surface.
The United States is currently co-hosting the tournament alongside Mexico and Canada. NASA has already supported the soccer event by successfully transporting an official FIFA ball to the International Space Station.
Moon base program manager Carlos Garcia-Galan confirmed that room will absolutely be cleared on a future flight if the team wins. Ultimate success now rests entirely on the performance of the national squad.
