Meloni Rejects Trump’s Claim, Says Italy ‘Begs Nobody’
A political dispute has emerged between Italy and the United States following comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump during a call to an Italian television programme.
Trump reportedly claimed that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had “begged” him to take a photograph with her during the recent G7 summit.
Meloni Issues Strong Rebuttal
In response, Meloni strongly rejected the claim, describing Trump’s remarks as inaccurate.
“President Trump’s words are pure fantasy,” she said. “We do not understand why the President of the United States behaves like this, especially towards allies. We would like to see him behave as firmly with the enemies of the West.”
She further added: “Italy and I do not beg anybody.”
Growing Attention on US–Italy Relations
The exchange has drawn attention amid already sensitive transatlantic relations, with both leaders representing key NATO allies during ongoing global political and security discussions.
