Crimea: The Ukrainian drone strike on a passenger train travelling between Moscow and Simferopol in Russian-controlled Crimea killed an assistant locomotive driver and injured the train's driver, according to Moscow-installed Crimean leader Sergey Aksyonov.

Aksyonov stated that the drone attacked the locomotive of the passenger train on Monday, though no travellers were hurt in the incident. Emergency services responded to the spot, and authorities assessed the extent of the damage.

The event is the latest in a series of drone attacks connected to the more than four years long conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In Crimea, which Russia occupied in 2014 and which Ukraine claims as its sovereign territory, Ukraine has frequently targeted military and transportation infrastructure.

Ukraine did not react to the purported strike right away. Both sides have raised their extended drone operations in recent months; strikes on military targets, energy installations, and transportation networks are often mentioned by Russia and Ukraine.
