Maranello, Italy: Ferrari has extended the contract of Charles Leclerc, ensuring the Monegasque driver remains with the Formula One team for the coming seasons.

Leclerc, who joined Ferrari in 2019, has won eight Grands Prix and finished runner-up in the 2022 drivers' championship. He is currently third in this season's standings, just ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton.

The 28 year old said staying with Ferrari was a dream come true, describing the team as a second family and reaffirming his commitment to helping bring the Formula One world championship back to Maranello.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur praised Leclerc's growth both as a driver and a leader within the team, calling the contract extension a natural decision.

Leclerc is Ferrari's second-most experienced Formula One driver and ranks second only to Michael Schumacher in the team's all-time pole positions list.
