UN Geneva’s Portail des Nations to Open in June 2026

A new visitors’ centre at United Nations Office at Geneva is set to officially open in early June 2026, marking a major step in bringing global diplomacy and multilateral cooperation closer to the public.

Known as the Portail des Nations, the project is located at the historic entrance of the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

The centre has been designed as an immersive and technology-driven experience aimed at helping visitors better understand the role of international cooperation in addressing major global issues including climate change, public health, innovation and human rights.

The initiative was launched by Ivan Pictet following a call by António Guterres to make multilateralism more accessible to people worldwide.

The project is being developed through the Fondation Portail des Nations, which was established in 2019 and will oversee operations during the centre’s initial phase.

Officials said the project has been entirely funded through private contributions, with major support from the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, Loterie Romande and the Dona Bertarelli Philanthropic Foundation.

Public institutions including the Swiss Confederation, the Republic and Canton of Geneva, and the City of Geneva have also supported the initiative’s early operations.

The Portail des Nations is expected to welcome up to 200,000 visitors annually, offering two-hour guided experiences in eight languages. The centre will operate daily from 9am to 6pm, with tickets available online.

Located on Avenue de la Paix and accessible by public transport, the new centre is expected to become a major cultural and educational destination in Geneva, highlighting the importance of dialogue, cooperation and shared global responsibility.
