Mistral Unveils New Open-Weight AI Model ‘Chonk’
French AI startup Mistral announced its latest open-weight model, ML4, on Tuesday, describing it as a new option for businesses seeking stronger performance, security and greater control over their data.
The model, dubbed Chonk, allows users to download and customize the parameters that determine how it processes information. This gives clients more flexibility compared with closed AI models, where the underlying parameters are not available for users to modify.
Mistral said the model is aimed at clients who prefer to keep greater control over their data rather than relying entirely on closed systems from companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
The launch marks Mistral’s first major product release since the French startup raised €3 billion ($3.4 billion) last month in what was described as Europe’s largest technology fundraising round.
