ADNOC Says UAE Hormuz Bypass Pipeline Nearly 50% Complete

ADNOC has announced that the UAE’s new West-East oil pipeline designed to bypass the Strait of Hormuz is now nearly 50% complete, as the country accelerates efforts to strengthen energy export security.

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, said the project is progressing toward its targeted completion in 2027.

Speaking during an event hosted by the Atlantic Council, Al Jaber said the UAE had invested in alternative export infrastructure more than a decade ago to reduce reliance on key maritime choke points.

The pipeline is part of the UAE’s long-term strategy to expand crude export routes through Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman coast, allowing shipments to avoid the Strait of Hormuz.

Officials said the new project is expected to double ADNOC’s export capacity through Fujairah once operational. The existing Habshan-Fujairah pipeline currently transports up to 1.8 million barrels of crude oil per day and has become increasingly important amid rising regional tensions.

The latest update follows recent directives by Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to fast-track the West-East Pipeline project during a meeting of ADNOC’s executive committee.

Al Jaber also revealed that ADNOC is continuing to assess damage and operational impacts linked to recent regional conflict, with some facilities reportedly affected. He said restoring certain operations could take weeks or months depending on the extent of the damage, while a full return to pre-conflict production levels may take at least four months.
